ADIOS, PAMPA MIA (GOOD-BYE TO MY PAMPA)

Music by Mariano Mores
Lyrics by Francisco Canaro and Ivo Pelay

Adiós, pampa mia!...
Me voy... Me voy a tierras extrañas.
Adiós, caminos que he recorrido,
ríos, montes y cañadas,
tapera donde he nacido.
Si no volvemos a vernos,
tierra querida,
quiero que sepas
que al irme dejo la vida.
Adiós!...

Al dejarte, pampa mía,
ojos y alma se me llenan
con el verde de tus pastos
y el temblor de las estrellas.
Con el canto de los vientos
y el sollozar de vihuelas
que me alegraron a veces
y otras me hicieron llorar.

Adiós... Pampa mía!...
Me voy camino de la esperanza.
Adiós, llanuras que he galopado,
sendas, lomas y quebradas,
lugares donde he soñado.
Yo he de volver a tu suelo
cuando presienta
que mi alma escapa
como paloma, hasta el cielo...
Adiós!...

Me voy, pampa mía!...
Adiós!...
Good-bye to my pampa!...
I’m off... I’m bound for faraway places.
Good-bye, trails where on horseback I darted,
Canyons, mountains, river traces,
The shack where my young life started.
Land that I love, if I never
Come back to see you,
Then you must know that
I leave my life as I leave you.
Good-bye!...

As I go away, my pampa,
Into my heart I feel coming
All the verdure of your grasses,
Stars atwinkle, and the humming.
Of your breezes, and the sobbing
Of guitars while gently strumming.
For they sometimes made me happy
And other times made me cry.

Good-bye to my pampa!...
I’m off, I go to where hope is calling.
Good-bye to plains that have seen me riding,
Trails and hills with water falling,
The place where my dreams are hiding.
I must come back to this country
When I feel signs of
My soul escaping
Just like a dove, up to heaven...
Good-bye!...

I’m leaving, my pampa!...
Good-bye!...
