Impact of a Thermoplastic Rod

Description:

Fully coupled simulation of a cylindrical rod impacting on a rigid hot wall. The rod is modeled by a finite strain thermoplastic model based on the multiplicative decomposition of the deformation gradient ( F = FeFp ). The simulation is performed with mixed finite elements (Q1/P0) and an unconditionally stable staggered scheme based on an adiabatic split of the problem of evolution. The figure shows the distribution of the temperature on the deformed configurations at different times.
